TO KILL ACHILLES Interview: Mark

Two days ago, on August 11th, 2023, To Kill Achilles released their newest album, Recovery through Arising Empire. This is a raw, genuine, heartbreaking album with so much sadness and soul within. The reality of Mark and his bandmates’ life experiences which are displayed so selflessly for others to connect with, is one of the most beautiful things I have seen and heard. They attack so many topics in a passionate and sincere form that anyone who is going through the same will immediately find themselves transported to the scenario, but this time they are not alone. That is the magic behind what these guys are doing, they are helping people heal and feel less alone.

To Kill Achilles is a four-piece metal band from Dundee, Scotland. Mark Tindal (vocals), Shaun Lawrence (guitar), Matthew Tippett (bass), and Kieran Smith (drums), are the men behind the musicianship and message. They are fascinating on all accounts of what they are playing and doing. The organic way they present the emotions and melodies drives right through your heart. I struggled to keep going because I was so emotional, but their delivery is so compelling you somehow go on through the tears. It is a very touching album full of life even in the death and sorrow of their stories. “Blue” is a really tough track to get through, but also incredibly important. Mark states he is “selfish” often in the interview, but I see the opposite, I see selflessness and bravery. I feel this is a crucial album for the world and all its’ people.

Mark was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation to discuss this release and his emotions and feelings behind it. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the bottom of the page and click “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
