BEAR MCCREARY Interview: Tim Henson and I Really Hit it Off

It is not every day I get to interview an Emmy Award winner, let alone a three-time Emmy winner. Or a twelve-time winner of the International Film Music Critics Association Awards. As if that is not impressive enough, how about two BAFTA Awards and two Grammy nominations? Who am I talking about? Composer Bear McCreary. In 2024, McCreary has veered from his usual musical course with a project titled The Singularity, which is more metal-infused and features many artists, including his brother Brendan McCreary. He is releasing the second part titled The Singularity: Ekleipsis on July 31st, 2026.

Bear McCreary started playing music at a very young age. He was able to be a student of a well-respected composer and one of his personal favorites, Elmer Bernstein. McCreary is known for scores from many TV shows, including the Outlander series, Black Sails series, and Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power series, with Battlestar Galactica putting him on the map and piquing the interest of other directors. He has also done many movies, including 10 Cloverfield Lane, Godzilla: King of Monsters, and Happy Death Day. McCreary is also the composer of the God of War video games. His work is extraordinary. The Singularity is just as impressive, with him mixing his compositions with profound rock and metal musicians such as Tim Henson (Polyphia), Joe Dulplantier (Gojira), Steve Vai, and Jens Kidman (Meshuggah), amongst many other notable artists. The Singularity: Ekleipsis is a fun adventure full of multi-genre styles and soundscapes that is sure to appeal to all music lovers. I encourage you to take the ride.
