I bought the debut KISS record on my 10th birthday in 1974. That was the beginning of the end, so to speak. I began my journalism career in high school, writing music reviews for the school paper. Years later, I would begin writing for a local music magazine in San Francisco, and eventually become its editor. In 2008, I started writing for and eventually bought Metalholic Magazine, and a decade later I have merged it into Metal Nation. Now you're all screwed =) United We Rock!

Rustyn Rose Feb 11, 2018 0
In metal they say all roads lead back to Black Sabbath, for Chicago's Black Road, this is particularly fitting. The stoner doom quarter is led by vocalist Suzi Uzi and fretmaster, Tim M. The unit is rounded out by the weighty rhythmic…

Rustyn Rose Feb 10, 2018 3
In the annals of heavy metal history, perhaps no more deserving band has been more undervalued and overlooked than Saxon. The South Yorkshire quintet led by founders Biff Byford (vocals) and Paul Quinn guitar) were part of the big three of…

Interview: ZAKK WYLDE talks BLACK LABEL SOCIETY ‘Grimmest Hits,’ OZZY, and more

Rustyn Rose Feb 4, 2018 0
A linear conversation with Black Label Society founder Zakk Wylde is a mathematical improbability. The bent-string berserker is simply not wired that way. Ask him about the band's new album, Grimmest Hits, and he'll tell you about Mount…

Born in the clubs of Deep Ellum, Messer calls forth the swagger of its Dallas, Texas roots. The band's name is German for "knife," but is also the last name for vocalist Dereak and bassist Maddox Messer. The quintet's riff heavy, dynamic…

Album Review: SAXON – Thunderbolt

Rustyn Rose Jan 8, 2018 0
Saxon – Thunderbolt Label: Militia Guard/Silver Lining Release Date: February 2, 2018 It has long been suggested that the only things one can truly count on in life, are death, taxes, and perhaps corrupt politicians. None of them good…

Rustyn Rose Dec 31, 2017 4
With each passing year, as the realms of heavy music became vastly wider in scope, culling together the Top 50 list becomes more difficult. Just take a spin through the various Top 10 lists from our own writers and you'll see not a single…

WILDESTARR Interview: Dave Starr and London Wilde delve ‘Beyond the Rain’

Rustyn Rose Dec 31, 2017 0
The 80s were heady time for heavy metal in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thrash would emerge along with Americanized speed and power metal. This is where I would first discover Dave Starr. From the first demo for speed-thrash monsters, Lääz…
