WARFIELD Interview: Johannes Speaks About The Deep Lyrics in Thrash

Thrash metal is one of the best genres. That is where the Big Four is! We owe so much to some of these pioneers, so seeing a younger band take some of the reins is really refreshing. Warfield has taken thrash and added some extra elements to keep it fresh, while remaining true to the original sound and idea. One of the most important pieces of this is having lyrics that are important and mean something. They have released their first album on Napalm Records on April 4th, 2025, titled With The Old Breed, and it is a killer album through and through.

Warfield began in 2012 and involves brothers, Johannes Clemens (vocals, bass), and Matthias Clemens (guitar), along with drummer, Dominik Marx. They already had this latest album completed by the time Napalm Records decided to sign them, which says a lot about how talented they are. With The Old Breed has an important message about people who have been in and seen war, and what their potential outlook and feelings might be about it all. They have read poems and done much research to gain a perspective to attempt to hold as true as they can to this message, which is something I have a lot of respect for. My favorite song on the album has quickly become the title track, “With the Old Breed”. There is a bit of a death metal feeling with the thrash elements, which they tend to hold to with most of these songs, but this one feels extra special. Make sure you check it out!

Johannes was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss the album and the message behind it, as well as talking about the thrash genre in general.
