We all know Testament and how glorious a band they are, and we know who Chuck Billy is as an artist, but do we know much about him as a person outside the music? He’s fairly secretive, but he is revealing more about himself in his upcoming novel, “Holding My Breath: The Two Testaments of Chuck Billy”, coming out November 6th, 2026. As someone lucky enough to read it early, I must say it is a must-read. I read a lot of books, including many memoirs and autobiographies of musicians, but only a few have stuck with me and taken me on an emotional rollercoaster. This was one of those books. I laughed, cried, bawled, and learned a lot about Chuck Billy. Even though I hadn’t finished it before I interviewed Chuck, I already felt like I knew him, just from his words.
Testament has been a beloved band for over 40 years now. Alex Skolnick is often featured in articles about top guitar players, and Chuck Billy is on many favorite vocalists’ lists. They are a highly influential band that has stayed at the top of their game all these years. It was a pleasure to talk with Billy, and I hope you all enjoy getting to know him on a more personal level.
