TESLA Interview: Dave and the Full Circle Moment

It is always so great to see bands keep going through all the shifts in the music industry over the decades. It is even more wonderful when it is a band that means a lot to you. Tesla is a band that has been near and dear to my heart since the 80s. Every time they put out a new album, I am immediately on it, and the upcoming album, Homage, is no different. The album drops on July 17th, 2026, and it is absolutely magnificent. I think most of us can agree that when Tesla covers a song, they do it justice. One of their biggest hits, “Signs,” is a cover of the Five Man Electrical Band. They never slouch, and the recreations are clearly very thought out and sincere.

Tesla began in 1981 during the “hair metal” scene, but they never fit that genre. There was much more to them, and that is one of the reasons they are still active and beloved, in my opinion. Members: Jeff Keith (vocals), Frank Hannon (guitar, piano, organ, backing vocals), Dave Rude (guitar, backing vocals, bass), Brian Wheat (bass, keyboards, piano, backing vocals), and Steve Brown (drums, percussion), have really taken these already memorable songs and made them their own, while paying a nearly perfect homage to the originals. Which is one of the reasons I think the album is an admirable title. A couple of my favorites are “Bring it on Home to Me,” a Sam Cooke cover, and “Give a Little Bit”, a Supertramp cover.

Dave Rude was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this release.
