LUNAR Interview: Alex Discusses The Passing of Time

Progressive music has taken on a form of its own in the metal world over the years. At this point, there are only a few common elements that are present. With Lunar, every album remains progressive, yet is entirely different from each other, and Tempora Mutantur is no exception. One thing you can expect is that it is going to be good, no, great. Tempora Mutantur is Lunar’s fourth album and will be released on January 31st, 2025.

Lunar consists of members all over the globe and began in 2013. Alex Bosson (drums), Ryan Price (bass), Jordan Price (guitar), Chandler Mogel (clean vocals), and Brian Lewis (harsh vocals) are the wizards behind the music. This album is related to the passing of time, which is why the breathtaking artwork shows different seasons, which was created by Bosson’s father, who is a painter.

The vast difference in vocal performances is astonishing, what is more incredible, is how well it works. There is an alchemy behind what happens with not only this album, but this band. They mix a lot of instruments, and there are many melody shifts, sometimes within the same song, but it works so well it seems impossible. I am always looking forward to hearing what they are up to because I know it is going to be wild, fun, and soulful.

With Tempora Mutantur, they begin with a track titled, “A Summer to Forget”, which has a lot of horns and sounds almost circusy. A good transition from their last album, The Illusionist, released in 2023. They mix clean and harsh vocals in this song, which makes it that much more quirky and unique, in the best way. They end with a three-part track with completely different-sounding soundscapes, even though the names all begin with the title of the album. This three-part series is a mix of feelings and emotions, yet every single one is so beautiful in its own way.

I am a big fan of Lunar. Alex was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation again and discuss this upcoming release. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the end of the page and click, “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
