There are some people I have interviewed who really stand out as fun and interesting, and Chris Kelly has been one of them. When I saw that Hillhaven had released another single, “Dead Doesn’t Hurt”, I was quick to ask for another interview. I was also quick to click on the video. I knew I was going to enjoy the new song. Hillhaven has been consistently putting out singles, and they have all been very impressive. This is not shocking, since the band started as a supergroup and has maintained an incredible lineup. Kelly, the creator of Hillhaven, has worked with Ice Nine Kills and was one of the originators of Galactic Empire. He also works with a band that must not be named for contractual reasons, but it is a huge band.
Hillhaven began with Chris Kelly jumping on vocals instead of his usual instrument, guitar. He also brought on Ricky Armellio of Ice Nine Kills on guitar, Jimmy Bennett (guitar), Jaime GoWell (bass), and Maty Madiro (drums). Madiro and Bennett are members of From Ashes to New. After Armellio, Bennett, and Madiro left due to scheduling conflicts, Kelly added Zach Moiser on drums and Chris LaPlante on guitar. They have gained a good number of fans in a short time since their creation.
Kelly was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation, and we went down the rabbit hole, yet again.
