Bonginator – Intergalactic Gorebong Of Deathpot

Label: Barbaric Brutally

Release Date: April 20th, 2023

The date 4/20 marks the debut CD release, Intergalactic Gorebong Of Deathpot, from Boston’s ” two stepping neon weed death” band Bonginator, who are more than just a bunch of pretty faces, this is actually the band’s second release as they put out an EP last year called The 1986 Doink City Massacre which showcased their brand of stoner death metal and enabled them to perform some wild live shows.

Bonginator is led by primary songwriter Erik Thorstenn who formed the band fueled by his love for cheesy 80’s movies and growing pot. Add in hardcore riffs and gut ripping breakdowns and you have a recipe for pot infused metallic hilarity. The rest of the band is filled out by Ron Bernhaut on bass and Jake Thompson on drums.

Opening cut after the intro is called “Intergalactic Gorebong of Deathpot”, (ft Devin Swank) and is an immensely catchy cut which will have you checking into the local clinic to make sure you didn’t catch something. The band has already released two singles from the album. The first is called “Chopped 2 Pieces” and was released in January. The second is accompanied by a clip for “Zombie Party Rockers” which could be pulled straight from a Troma films outtake and works very well with the tune.

The rest of the album contains such declarations of fun such as “Brined, Smoked, and Deep Fried”, (ft Mutilation Barbeque)” and “Blunt Smoke Suffocation” (ft. Scab Hag, Snuffed On Sight) which are pretty much par for the mutated course. Downtuned guitars, a killer sounding set of drums, and ferociously rabid vocals that spit out odes to woe and weed. Bands such as 220 Stab Wounds, Cannabis Corpse, and Macabre are 3 bands that jump immediately to mind but the band has a taste of their own as well.

The band showcased their sick riffage last year here at The Shredder in Boise (with homegrown sickos Brutalism and Texas Ketamine) and with any luck they will hit our stages once again in the near future. In the meantime, check out Bonginator on their upcoming minitour with Frog Mallet, Scab Hag, and Mutilation Barbecue. Stock up on neckbraces and pain meds, you’re gonna need them.
