When you think of the 1980’s, Winger is easily in the top ten bands that come to your brain. When Beavis and Butthead decided to make Winger the “butt” of their jokes, it became taboo to like a band that had zero business being roped into a category they did not exist in, hair metal. The incredible musicianship that came out of this band was much more special than any genre specific category, and those who continue to miss out, truly do miss out. Seven is their seventh album, obviously, and it is a gem. Frontiers Records has released this monster on May 5th, 2023, and it is an absolute killer album full of some soulful rock music.
In 1987 Winger made their first trek into the music scene and released their debut self-titled album in 1988. In 1989 they were hitting charts and sweeping the world with their unique heavy metal sound. Over 30 years later, they are continuing their legacy with the same members; Kip Winger (vocalist, acoustic guitar), Reb Beach (lead guitar, keyboards), Paul Taylor (guitar, keyboards), Rod Morgenstein (drums, keyboards), and John Roth (bass).
Kip was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discussing this release. (If you are viewing from you cellphone, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the red words “View Desktop Version” to gain access to interviews and videos).
