Sometimes musicians cross over into different genres, which is what happened with Tim Montana, who has gone from Country to Rock/Metal. According to him, the country world did not receive him very well, but thankfully, the rock community welcomed him with open arms and he seems to feel more at home. Looks like we get a major win here, because Montana is a prodigious singer/songwriter with beautiful pipes.
He started sweeping the rock stations with the single, “Devil You Know” from his newly released album, Savage, which came out on July 12th, 2024. This album is full of difficult topics of his personal trauma and mental health, which he stresses the importance of getting out there to help others. His infectious personality and humor help you feel comforted through it all, and that is one of the many magical things about Tim Montana.
The song, “Day by Day”, is a heartbreaking and absolutely beautiful track full of messages of hope through life’s despair and difficulty with sobriety. Another one that sticks with me is, “Get You Some”, which has a little bit of a heavier/ grungier feel to it. He discusses both of these songs in our interview. These have become my favorite on the album, although the entire album is really brilliant.
He just got off of tour with 90’s greats; Jerry Cantrell, Bush, and Candlebox, and is heading out on tour with Seether and Skillet in September. You can find videos of Montana singing songs with Cantrell, “Rooster”, and Candlebox, “Far Behind” on his social media, as well as on YouTube.
Montana was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this release, as well as mental health related and sobriety. (If you are viewing from your phone, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
