Mixing metal and mental health-related issues is not a new concept, utilizing the metal music as your platform to raise awareness and taking mental health help on the road is definitely less common. Rorschach Test has included mental health-related topics in their music, music videos, website, and now they are taking it on tour. To say this is needed is an understatement. James Baker is very open with his ideas and desire to help with substance abuse and everything mental health includes. Rorschach Test released their latest album, Fallen, on Halloween October 31st, 2024 through Unlabeled Artists, which happens to be their very own non-profit label.

Rorschach Test is a genre-mixing heavy metal band out of Denver, Colorado. Creator and vocalist, James Baker, along with his wife The Narcoleptic Goddess as an inspiration and lyrical architect. Kolby Peoples comes in with guitar, writing, and production. These three have made something really special with a formula that is near impossible to explain. Rorschach Test is a gothic infused with heavy riffs and some industrial elements. That is my best explanation, but whatever you end up calling it, I have no doubt the words, “it is just good”, will seep into your mind.

The song “Belated”, seems to really be taking stride with its important and emotional message, catchy and moody atmospheric vibe, and soulful vocals. The soaring guitar with the groove of the song elevates the feeling. The whole album takes you on a wild ride, but comes to an end with this slower track.

James was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this release, mental health, substance abuse, and a myriad of other topics. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the bottom of the page and click “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
