There are many guitar players out there, but not all of them are great. Rod Rodrigues is definitely on the great list. This Brazilian-Canadian guitarist released his recent album, Tales of a Changing Life Part 2, on October 18th, 2024, which had been followed by Tales of a Changing Life Part 1 released in 2022. He has guest appearances on this release, including Angel Vivaldi, John Macaluso, and Hugo Mariutti. The album has many emotions written into the melodies, and many shifts throughout.
The first track, “Inukshuk”, is an adventure all in itself. There are many melody shifts and musical changes that keep you guessing throughout the song. “East Coast Memories” has more of a classic rock vibe with a touch of southern rock elements. “Dust In My Eyes” is one of my favorites on the album, it is proggy and sounds almost like you are in a video game. “Mom’s Lullaby”, is a beautiful and happy feeling song, which Rodrigues wrote for his mother.
Rod was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this release as well as teaching and other topics. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the end of the page and click “View Desktop Version” to gain the interview and video access).
