MIKE MORTEM Interview: The Relationship Between Horror and Metal

You can sometimes find really creative musicians through a simple algorithm suggestion. Since I have become a little bit obsessed with videos and articles about the movie Obsession, I was brought to Mike Mortem on Instagram. He had created a collaborative video of Knocked Loose’s “Suffocate” over an Obsession clip. I then went down the rabbit hole on his page and watched many videos of metal songs mixed with horror movie clips. He also does some reimaginings of horror songs that he recreated. It didn’t take long for me to reach out to him and ask if he would be interested in chatting, and thankfully, he obliged.

Mike Mortem is from Ireland, but spends time in the Los Angeles area as well. He is an artist of many talents and has many aspirations in the art world. He is a horror enthusiast as well as a metal enthusiast, which is how he came up with the idea to mix the two in the way he has. We had a great conversation about the levels of dedication fans have for both. It was a fun chat, and I encourage you to check out his Instagram to see what he is up to!
