The first time I heard Evergrey, I was blown away. Since that moment, I have tried to stay on top of what they are up to and the new music they are creating. They usually have at least one song on each album that I will listen to obsessively. I know that it is normal for some to listen to the same song repeatedly. I am not usually one of those people, but I become one of them with Evergrey. The new album, Architects of a New Weave, brings “The Prophecy” with the release to my excited eardrums. The album will be released on June 5th, 2026, through Napalm Records.
Evergrey began in 1993 in Sweden (of course, some of the best bands come from that country). Architects of a New Weave includes members: Tom S. Englund (vocalist), Rikard Zander (keyboard, backing vocals), Johan Niemann (bass, backing vocals), Simen Sandnes (drums), and newest member Stephen Platt on guitar. The album is another brilliant creation from these musicians who continually impress old and new fans alike. The song “A Burning Flame” also includes Mikael Stanne of Dark Tranquility and The Halo Effect, as well as others, and it is a perfect mixture of the two vocalists harmonizing beautifully. The compositions all around are thrilling with keyboards that breathe that extra life into an already impressive guitar, bass, and drums. Englund’s vocals are, as always, impeccable, with Niemann and Zander adding a whole other layer of soulful sounds. Platt is a beast on the guitar and has some impressive moments throughout the album. It is a profound collaboration that is worth digesting in its entirety, and ends with a masterpiece of a song.
Zander was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this release.
