Napalm Records continue to discover and sign the best metal has to offer, and Defacing God is another feather in their cap. The debut album, The Resurrection of Lilith, came out September 2nd, 2022, and has created quite a stir in the scene. This melodic death metal five-piece has developed a way to tell important stories about women’s suffrage and equality through figures throughout history and incredible soundscapes to bring the stories to life. Vocalist Sandie Gjortz depicts Lilith as her stage presence and drives it forcefully into your heart with her harsh and operatic vocals. If you enjoy any part of what I have explained here, you do not want to miss this album.

The Scandanavian band began its journey in 2015. Gjortz/The Lilith on vocals, Michael Olsson (drums), Signar Peterson (lead guitar), Christian Snapholt Nielsen (rhythm guitar), and Rasmus “Kalke” Nielsen (bass), are using their musical platform to not only tell these important stories, but to do it in a way that is energy infusing, haunting, and cinematic.  Their video presence on top of this extraordinary debut shows how diverse they are in their performances and musical talent. The composition and orchestration keep you eager to hear more with the guitar riffs and solos to the galloping drum beats and balancing bass lines, bringing together a magical element of surprises and heavy melodies.

Sandie was kind to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this project. Unfortunately, the Skype connection was a little tough at first, but it is worth getting through that part to hear what she has to say.
