CAIVANO Interview: Phil Talks the Importance of Creative Arts

In the late 80’s, into the 90’s, and moving forward still, Monster Magnet has been a big force in the rock music world. For a while, you couldn’t go a day without hearing “Space Lord” playing somewhere or on something. Phil Caivano was just starting out with Monster Magnet at the time this hit came out in the late 1990s and has made MM his home since. While he states this band gives him all the creative space he needs and continues to love working with his longtime friend Dave Wyndorf (vocals and guitar of Monster Magnet), he had enough free time during covid to get out some songs he had been brewing over the years. Caivano was an extra outlet he wanted to share with the world, and the world is glad he did.

Caivano is complete with ten tracks at a little over a half hour of music. There is some diversity here while also staying true to the Caivano riffs we have all grown to love. Beginning with “Come & Get Me”, which has a fun groovy feel with catchy riffs, to “Sick of You” track 8, with a darker feel and memorable drum beat. The album ends with, “Face the Music”, where the music slows down and has a spacy ambiance and smoky atmosphere. It may be my favorite on the album, but the whole album is very enjoyable.

Phil was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this release. (If you are viewing from your phone, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “View Desktop Version” to gain access to videos and interview).
