ARMORED SAINT Interview: John’s Lyrical Influences Come From Everywhere

The 80s were a great time for metal, the 90s continued to level up the genre, and metal has continued to be a force to be reckoned with. Some of the bands that began earlier on are still prevalent in the scene, and Armored Saint is one of the most beloved. Not only are they incredible and consistent musically, but they also have a frontman, John Bush, who has a distinct vocal style that appeals to the masses. From his time with Anthrax, to the supergroup Catergory 7, to where it all began with Armored Saint, Bush has regularly sung his way into our ears and hearts. Armored Saint is releasing a new album, Emotion Factory Reset, on May 22nd, 2026, and it is another extraordinary album.

Armored Saint began in Los Angeles, California, in 1982 by brothers Phil (guitar) and Gonzo (drums) Sandoval. John Bush (vocalist) and Joey Vera (bass, backing vocals) joined quickly with Jeff Duncan (guitar, backing vocals) a few years later. They have maintained a fairly consistent lineup throughout the years, which is somewhat rare. That tells me a lot about the members. Emotion Factory Reset is full of catchy riffs, dynamic vocals, and groovy beats that keep you engaged and wanting more. Make sure you check it out! Preorder and see them live near you!

Bush was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation to discuss this release and other topics.
