In the mid-70s, a heavy metal band out of England formed, and the world has never been the same since. Saxon was on the rise fairly early on in their career and was already topping charts. In 1981, their album, Denim and Leather took hold of a growing fanbase and held firm for over 40 years, and still ongoing. The most amazing thing about this band is their consistency and their drive to continue making incredible music.
Saxon is releasing their 24th album titled Hell, Fire and Damnation on January 19th, 2024 through Silver Lining Music. 24th! Biff Byford (vocals), Paul Quinn (guitar, backing vocals), Doug Scarratt (guitar), Nibbs Carter (bass, backing vocals), and Nigel Glockler (drums), have created another giant and an album Byford refers to as “magical”, which I have to agree. Somehow, after all of these years, these guys are sounding fresh and strong. Byford’s vocals have stayed powerful and impressive, which is so rare when someone is singing as long as he has.
The album has dependable history components, mixed with aliens and witches. It has some heavy riffs, with melodic breaks, and an introduction to prepare you for the adventure they are taking you on.
Biff was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation again and discuss this release as well as Heavy Water, him and his son’s band. (If you are viewing from your phone, scroll to the end of the screen and click “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
