Power metal seems to be more diverse than it used to be. You still know what you are getting, but not completely. Primal Fear is a power metal band who has gone through some changes but still stays consistent with their sound. They are releasing the latest album, Dominion, on September 5th, 2025 through Reigning Phoenix Music. It is full of great riffs, high-octane vocals, catchy soundscapes, and some great solos.
Primal Fear started their adventure in 1997 in Germany. They have released 15-plus albums and continue to put out stellar music with each and every one. While there have been some musician changes over the years, the consistency remains top-notch. With Dominion, the members who have created this are: Ralf Scheepers (lead vocals), Mat Sinner (bass, lead vocals), Magnus Karlsson (guitar), Thalia Bellazecca (guitar), and Andre Hilgers (drums). The harmonizing vocals of the two original members, along with Karlsson and Bellazecca’s dueling solos and riffs make this release very enjoyable and engaging.
Some of the memorable for this writers tracks are, “Hallucinations” with its breathy and beautiful soundscape as just an instrumental. “A Tune I Won’t Forget”, a raw and haunting song with an ethereal piano and raspy vocals until around the two-minute mark, where the vocals shift to a belting soul-captivating sound. I also really dig the drums in “I Am The Primal Fear”, which is also a very catchy song.
Karlsson was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this release as well as other topics we thought of along the way. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the bottom and click, “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
