NEGUS Interview: A Blindfolded Journey

There are some musicians who have just started their journey, and there are some who already have created a legacy. Steve Negus has an extensive resume in the music industry since the 1970s with bands like Saga, whom he was with for almost 30 years, to an album with Chris de Burgh in 1982. He then decided to start his own project and brought Kelly Kereliuk (guitar), and Mike DeBenedictis (bass),  along for the ride. He has shown his extreme talents with drumming and songwriting and has done so once again with the album, Economy of Motion, which was released on April 11th, 2023. These Canadians know how to bring the fire, and I highly encouraged you all to check it out.

Economy of Motion is an instrumental breath of fresh air. The adventure you go on from song to song is exciting and exotic. Tracks like, “Economy Acoustic” transport you to an island, while others like, “The Chase of the Thrill” keep you on your toes as you make your rapid escape. I get an 80’s car chase feel from it. Then you have, “Celebration”, which gives you the closing perfectly. It is full of melody shifts and uplifts your spirits with a smiling heart. It has become my favorite on the album.

The guitar work is outstanding, which you come to expect with the incredibly talented Kereliuk. The composition all around is superb, with all the musical elements mixed in throughout. I love albums that keep me guessing, and this one is a great example of this.

Steve and Kelly were kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this release. (If you are viewing from your phone, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the red “View Desktop Version” to gain interview access).
