INTERVALS Interview: Aaron and Neeka Talk About Brain Shit

0

Instrumental music has come a long way throughout the years and progressive instrumental metal has taken hold of the metal community. Bands from Animals as Leaders, to Polyphia, to Intervals. All have a unique twist to what they do, and that is what I find so intriguing. Intervals has  larger soundscape with fuller elements and video game style compositions. They also have created videos that go along with this asthetic and with the brain related topics. Memory Palace was release May 17th, 2024 and is their fifth full-length studio album.

Aaron Marshall is the mastermind behind starting Intervals, and he is joined by touring bandmates: Nathan Bulla (drums), Jacob Umanasky (bass), and Travis Leerier (guitar). Each album has a subject that encompasses it, with Memory Palace relating to the part of the brain that holds memory as well as neuroplasticity and everything in between. Musically there are melodic exercises that go from fast paced to more slowed down aspects, depending on the song and what feel it has. I really dig “Galaxy Brain” and “Chronophobia”, but really the entire album is a fun adventure that you can listen to in any setting. Playing videos games, studying, driving, anything.

Aaron was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and talk the new release as well as many other important and fun topics. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the bottom of the page and click, “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
