Thrash metal is a genre where you are pretty certain what to expect. There will be some differences, of course, but it’s a straightforward style of music. Enter Belushi Speed Ball. They take thrash metal, and feed it a shit ton of pizza, maybe some edibles, and allow some intrusive thoughts out to play. This is one of my favorite genres and I had no idea it could be this much fun while also holding to the talent it takes to create it. I cannot remember the last time I was this entertained by going down a rabbit hole.
This Kentucky group started in 2013 and the members of this insane project are, Vinny Crastellano (vocals, bass), Derrek Tipton (guitar), Jamison Land (guitar), and Daniel Neel (drums). They are so creative in an incredible amount of ways from merch ideas that are made straight from Vinny’s hands to the epic and wacky videos that have the potential to break YouTube. Belushi Speed Ball doesn’t keep all the craziness behind closed doors, their live shows also include some unpredictable and zany surprises! This always ends with the fanbase and band cleaning up the mess they leave behind, world-class band there.
Belushi Speed Ball‘s newest album dropped on May 10th, 2024 titled, Stellkira, and it is just as fantastic as its predecessors. It begins with, “My Favorite Color is Pizza”, where you can listen to everywhere from normal streaming platforms to an actual pizza in resin that also plays the song. “Garth, Let My Family Go”, discusses a very important topic, Mr. Brooks as a serial killer and the band just wants him to let their family go. From “Eels and Escalators”, to “The Hash Slinging Slasher”, you will be entertained all the way through.
