UPON A BURNING BODY Interview: Danny Comforting His Younger Self

Texas is a location that has brought a lot of incredible metal for many decades now. One of the countless bands you may think of is Upon a Burning Body, who is releasing their seventh studio album titled Blood of the Bull, which will be out on December 5th, 2025. It is another incredible album full of breakdowns, fierce vocals, and some beautiful clean vocals, along with grooves, positive lyrics and of course some Spanish-style compositions here and there.

Upon a Burning Body began in 2005 and consists of members: Danny Leal (vocals), Ruben Alvarez (guitar, backing vocals), Thomas Alvarez (bass, backing vocals). They have become independent and are releasing this album as an independent band. Blood of the Bull begins with a beautiful acoustic Spanish guitar track that is strictly instrumental outside of an “Ole!” chant. The second song, “Hand of God”, has been previously released and jumps directly into the more deathcore style. The album has a kaleidoscope of compositions and ends with the breathtaking “Reckless Love”, which Danny and I discuss in the interview. I have completely fallen in love with this album and encourage everyone to take the journey they created. Also, with an independent band, it is even more important to buy the merch and go to the shows! Support your favorite bands!

Danny sat down with Metal Nation and discussed the upcoming release as well as many other topics. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
