SPITE Interview: Not Shying Away From the Realities of Life

Once in a while, there is an album that has a really big impact on you. One that every time you turn it on, your body vibrates with excitement and energy because your soul recognizes it feels like home. To have a death metal/metalcore album do this to the extent this album and band have is almost astonishing. Yet, here I am, loving this album with every fiber of my being. What are we talking about here? SPITE and their upcoming release, New World Killer, which will be released on October 31st, 2025. HFS! Where do I even begin?

SPITE is a Southern California band that began in 2014 by brothers Darius Tehrani (vocals), and Alex Tehrani (guitar), along with Lucas Garrigues (guitar), Ben Bamford (bass), and Travis Regnier (drums). New World Killer is a really special album, and I am not entirely sure I am able to put into words why, I just feel it. It is extremely heavy and really creative in its compositions. Every time I try to turn it on to express anything I am experiencing, I just get lost in the music all over again. I consume an insane amount of music consistently, so this is what makes this a rare unicorn.

New World Killer begins with my favorite track of the album, “The Disaster”, which sets the pace and just RIPS. The riff starts the feel, with almost a reggaeton kind of style, and jumps into the harsh vocals and insane drumming. What I love about this one is the shifting throughout the song and melody changes, then ending with a soft soundscape. “Lights Out” is a previously released single that is impressive and brutal. Darius and Alex let me dig into the discomfort of the video release and events that unfortunately occurred simultaneously, and their response is honest and important. I could discuss each track in full detail, which means I might have to come out of album review hiatus for this one. It is beyond worth the listen and preorder.

Darius and Alex sat down with Metal Nation to discuss this release, as well as the elephant in the room, and many other topics. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the end of the page and click “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
