MELECHESH Interview: Ashmedi Keeping Positive in an Impossible Environment

Black metal bands come from all over the globe, from Europe to America, to the Middle East, and everything in between. Melelchesh hails from Jerusalem through musician Ashmedi. They began in 1993 and have continued for this many years. Melechesh is releasing a new EP Sentinels of Shamash, on April 10th, 2026, and what an EP it is! The creativity with extreme metal and Middle Eastern influences is a dynamic mix that I didn’t know I needed in life. I highly suggest you check it out!

Melechesh has some incredible compositions, and Sentinels of Shamash continues this. Ashmedi is a multi-instrumentalist who clearly understands the recipe for mixing melodies, beats, and instruments to appeal to the listeners. This short EP feels anything but, because it is full of meat and aggression in the best way. Along with him are musicians: Nikitas Mandolas (drums), Rob Caggiano (bass), and guest vocals on “The Seventh Verdict” by Jessica Pimentel. The three tracks are inventive and delicious. They take you on a ride that keeps your interest piqued and your ears alert. I really enjoyed this adventure.

Even though Ashmedi was in a very difficult environment, he still took the time to chat with Metal Nation about this release. Make sure you follow the socials to find out what they are up to!
