HEAVY//HITTER Interview: Austin and Dane say Wear a Mouth Piece in the Pit

One of the best things about metal is the subgenres, mixing of subgenres, and diversity within. Just because it fits under the metal umbrella doesn’t at all mean you know what you are about to experience, and I think that is where it has grown exponentially. Heavy//Hitter has a unique sound while also complementing some aggressive, metalcore/hardcore, as well as deathcore influences. It is difficult to categorize, which is one of my favorite genres in the metal world, the “I don’t know really where to put them” category. Heavy//Hitter has released their latest EP, Coming to Terms, on October 10th, 2025.

Heavy//Hitter originates from Florida with members: Austin Hayes (vocalist), Dane Loeprich (guitar), Chris Perez (bass), and Josh Archeval (drums). They began in 2019 and have made a huge mark on the scene, with extensive touring and a large stage presence. Coming to Terms is a heavy hitter from this cleverly titled band, and it does not let up all the way through. You will hear a little Knocked Loose/Kublai Khan TX style, but with their own flair. The first track, “Eat Your Words,” jumps right into what you are about to experience. Even though it is a super short introduction, it does a good job of preparing you for what is to come. The segue to song two, “Nurtured by Anger,” is seamless and flawless. The entire EP is just brutal and so much fun to shove into your ears. I dare you to attempt to sit still while listening.

If you haven’t checked these guys out yet, you will not be disappointed when you finally do.

Austin and Dane were sweet enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss the Coming to Terms release among many other topics. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the bottom of the page and click “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access).
