ELDER Interview: Nick and the Mighty War and Peace

Stoner rock bands were my favorite genre for many years. Elder was high up on that list, and I was always really excited when a new album was about to drop. I noticed an evolution in Elder with each album release, and listened as they moved further away from stoner rock and into experimental, progressive, psychedelic rock. With these changes, I was nervous I wouldn’t enjoy the newer creations, but I quickly realized that this wouldn’t be the case. The main reason is Elder’s phenomenal musicianship and compositions, and the realization that they are true masters of their craft. Through Zero is another validation that they know what they are doing and will continue to excel with each evolution. Through Zero will be out May 29th, 2026, and it is a breathtaking album.

Elder began in 2006 in Massachusetts and has since journeyed to Germany. They consist of members Nick DiSalvo (vocals, guitar), Jack Donovan (bass), Mike Risberg (guitar, keyboards), and Georg Edert (drums). This quartet has maintained a steady elevation of sound while the fanbase fully supports the ever-evolving and experimental freedom they have expressed through the music. What a beautiful thing! This is very unique, and I think it is the rarity of the band that shows the depths of the emotion of the music they are able to show, which aids the continual support.

Nick was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss Through Zero and many other topics.
