The Boise metal scene is truly unique and much bigger than people outside of Idaho would probably guess. I always relate it to the Seattle grunge or LA punk scenes; there is something special about it. Additionally, the level of support the musicians show for one another is truly beautiful. From attending each other’s shows to sharing each other’s events and hyping each other up, it is refreshing to know that there are musicians out there who continually do this. Hansi Hilmer has been a part of the local scene for decades and is a big staple. He has been involved in quite a few bands, but has landed in a full circle moment of bringing his home band, Buried Faith, away from his homeland to our local community.
Buried Faith is a project that Hansi began in Germany, and has brought it back and rejuvenated it with new members in a different location. This thrash metal band has made waves around the world with their release, Blackened Skies, Open Graves. You can buy this album on Bandcamp on the link attached to Hansi’s name above, or contact your closest band member and buy it from them. Speaking of other band members, Buried Faith is: Hansi Hilmer (vocals), Aaron Crandall (guitar), Jason Emry (bass), Matt Hopkins (guitar), and Donny Martinez (drums).
Hansi was ind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss this band as well as other topics. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the end of the page and click “View Desktop Version” to gain interview and video access). Photo cred: Metal Nation’s incredible Katarzyna Cepek.
