SUICIDE SILENCE Interview: Mark and the Importance of Self-Care

The band Suicide Silence came into the metal scene in the early 2000’s with so much force and energy, the community had to know and see everything they could about them. At this point, they were an unknown band without a label who was creating buzz through MySpace. They quickly swept up a fanbase and haven’t looked back since. While they have endured some musician shifts, and a heartbreaking loss of their vocalist Mitch Lucker in 2012, which shocked the entire metal community, they have managed to get back up and make their mark all over again.

At this time, Suicide Silence consists of members; Mark Heylmun (lead guitar), Chris Garza (rhythm guitar),  Dan Kenny (bass), Hernan “Eddie” Hermida (vocals), and Ernie Iniguez (drums).  They have just released the newest album, Remember… You Must Die on March 10th, 2023  through Century Media Records, and it is in your face, heavy fucking deathcore metal. They would know this genre, they happen to be one of the pioneers.

The artwork and title of the album have some Latin connections and are interesting to dive further into and get a closer look at. The videos that have been released so far are crazy. “You Must Die”  shows a quite literal interpretation of the song lyrics. “Alter of Self” has a hilarious beginning that quickly shifts to a bad trip, but in the best way. “Capable of Violence” is a straight gore movie that has a disclaimer before you watch it, according to Mark, you have to login to your account to watch it.

Mark was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation about this upcoming release, as well as touring after covid, self-care, meditation, and hallucinogens. (If you are viewing from your phone, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “View Desktop Version”  to see interview and music videos).
