On Monday, October 23, Mastodon the almighty returned to the Treasure Valley and served up another brilliant show at the Revolution Concert House and Events Center in Boise. The Georgia-based quartet is touring in support of its latest studio effort, Emperor of Sand released this spring. From the album the band performed seven tracks as part of their 19-song set, including the hits ‘Show Yourself” “Sultan’s Curse,” and “Steambreather,” plus “Roots Remain,” “Ancient Kingdom,” Andromeda,” and “Precious Stones.” They also dialed up four tracks from their masterful release, Crack the Skye, including show opener “The Last Baron,” “Oblivion,” “Divinations,” and the title track. Other notable performances included “Crystal Skull,” “Megalodon,” “Mother Puncher,” and “Black Tongue.”

Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds came out with Eagles of Death Metal garbed in a  big curly wig to perform on their opening song, “I Only Want You.”  EoDM are touring in support of their 2015 release, Zipper Down. Included in the set along with their own trademark anthems were covers of Duran Duran‘s “Save a Prayer,” David Bowie‘s “Moonage Daydream,” and the Boots Electric classic, “Complexity.”

Chicago-based instrumental post metal trio, Russian Circles opened the show performing songs from their most recent studio album, Guidance and back catalog. Included in the short set were the tracks, “Afrika,” “309,” “Geneva,” and “Deficit.”
