Concert Review: GWAR Bloodies Treefort in a Sea of Red

Treefort is a newer concert hall for us metalheads in Boise, Idaho, and is quickly becoming a favorite. This atmosphere is a perfect mix of room, comfort, and brings amazing shows. April 15th, 2026, is another example as the venue brought in the almighty (and messy) Gwar, along with Soulfly and King Parrot. What an insane lineup! Not one band disappointed, and all delivered with a perfect metal bow, or bloody head, tomato tomato.

The night began with the incredibly entertaining King Parrot. This was my first live viewing of them, and I was floored by the energy and talent that gushed out of them. They quickly got the crowd engaged and jumping along. Vocalist Youngy hypnotized the people as he sprayed water out, getting everyone ready for the inevitable liquid bath they would take later that night. As the setlist played on, Youngy jumped into the crowd and became a part of the mass. It was quite beautiful to see a sea of humans surrounding the dedicated frontman. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this band and will be first in line to see them again. Not all bands are able to impress an entire floor in one short experience, but King Parrot did just that, and I can safely say they are doing this night after night.

Soulfly was the second act, but my first time seeing them, which is crazy to say for as many shows I go to, as long as I have been going to shows, and as long as they have been relevant. Max Cavalera is a beloved musician in the metal scene, and for good reason. He is not only exceptionally talented but has also been a part of creating some of the best metal music, and I have also only heard positive things about him as a human. Win, win, win. Soulfly dominated the stage and reminded us all why we have loved them for so long. These Brazilian powerhouses swept the flood of humans up with “Jumpdafuckup” and ended the set with the fan favorite, “Eye for an Eye”.

Bring back the bomb to the stage, er, Gwar, and their trusty dinofriend Gor-Gor. What is adorable about that lame sentence I just tried to make is that Gwar didn’t even have that song on their setlist, but they did have a whole string of great songs in store for the night, along with their crazy antics. Beginning with “Fuck This Place, ” which everyone all too comfortably yelled along to. Look, the world is a mess, and I think we collectively needed to have that moment together for some collective catharsis. As “characters” based on some of the worst humans on the planet cascaded on and off stage, Gwar did what they do best and made sure those people were properly disposed of, in a safe and entertaining matter might I add. If you are easily offended, this will never be a show I would suggest, but if you need to exercise some freedom of speech and emotions, in the most fun way, that is the place for you. As they oozed all over the crowd of people like a red explosive sprinkler, the people jumped in the way to try to be the most drenched in Gwar blood person in the room. Always a fun sight to see.

Our insanely talented photographer, Katarzyna Cepek was there to capture the night with her trusty lenses. Here is her beautiful work below.
