My love for stoner rock and doom metal runs deep. I have come to realize it is probably due to growing up with 60s and 70s rock music, and into Black Sabbath, and so on. It seems like it is a natural evolution that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Gozu definitely fits into this escalation, and the album Gozu VI is a perfect fit for my ears and heart.
Gozu started in 2008 and includes members: Marc Gaffney (vocals, guitar), Joseph Grotto (bass), Doug Sherman (lead guitar), and Seth Botos (drums). This quartet has created another incredible album with VI, including fun visuals in the song “Banacek.” While the video is a funny ride, the emotions behind this album are far from that. It is full of emotional melodies and lyrics that really drive through the soul, which I really appreciate about it. Music saves us when we are down or struggling, so having albums you can go to that help with not feeling alone is more important now than ever. This is one of those albums, and I encourage all to give it a listen, all the way through.
Marc was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss all things Gozu and VI.
