ACID KING Interview: Sci-Fi Becomes the Driving Force for Lori

Over 30 years ago, Lori S began her adventure in music and never looked back. Because of this, the world has been blessed with some incredible albums and songs with Acid King. It has been 8 years since their last album, so fans have been eager to hear what she has been up to. Beyond Vision, out March 24th, 2023 via Blues Funeral Recordings, is the newest edition and it is breathtaking. The record is full of psychedelic soundscapes with a cosmic atmosphere, which is due to Lori’s love for sci-fi and her attraction to sci-fi soundtracks.

In San Francisco, CA back in 1993, Lori began her adventure with Joey Osbourne on the drums and Peter Lucas on bass which formed stoner, metal band, Acid King. She has worked with many amazing musicians since, including Dale Crover from Melvins in the early years. For Beyond Vision, she connected with Jason Landrian of Black Cobra and they began to have intense conversations about life. This lead to their creation, and it is quite an awe-inspiring experience. This album has keyboards and synthesizers, which you think wouldn’t work with Acid King, but they make it work beautifully. It is one you should consume in one setting, so use the bathroom, grab your drink or extracurricular activity at hand, and jump into this spacey journey with all of your heart and soul open. Once you begin, you will want to engage the full experience without interruption.

Lori sat down with Metal Nation to discuss this release and dive more into her love of all things space related. (If you are viewing from your cellphone, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “View Desktop Version” to gain video and interview access).
