TEXTURES Interview: Stef Takes Us On a Geographical Journey

I get so much music daily, it is near impossible to go through it all, but there are times I get an album that I cannot wait to sink my teeth into, and Textures is one of those bands with their upcoming release, Genotype, which will be out on January 23rd, 2026. What a way to start a year! True to form, Textures once again delivers some of the best progressive metal has to offer, and I could not be happier.

Textures are a six-piece Dutch band that began in 2001. A couple of band members have changed over the years, but the sound has remained remarkably consistent. Stef Broks (drums), Bart Hennephof (guitar, backing vocals), Remko Tielemans (bass), Joe Tal (guitar), Uri Dijk (keyboards), and Daniel de Jongh (vocals) have composed a near masterpiece with many layers of creative soundscapes. Genotype consists of many melody shifts and breathtaking harmonies. Some of the notable tracks are “Measuring the Heavens,” a soulwarming and beautiful song that takes you on a journey of emotions. “Closer to the Unknown” is a heavier, thundering track with aggressive riffs and vocals. “Walls of the Soul” is one of my favorite adventurous songs, which is talked about in the interview.

Stef was kind enough to sit down with Metal Nation and discuss Genotype as well as many other topics. If you would like to keep up on what Textures is doing, check out the links below!
