Metal comes in many forms and many subgenres. Some bands tend to stick to one genre from the beginning of their career to the end, or if they are still going, they remain consistent. Others shift subgenres in the middle to renew or refresh their sound. Next To Eternity is the latter. If you compare the albums to what they have been releasing as singles lately, you won’t believe it is the same band. They have gone from a more metalcore sound to a straight deathcore style. With this change, they have transitioned brilliantly and have added in a flair of horror elements with the upcoming single, which shows a homage to The Evil Dead franchise.
Next To Eternity began in 2018 out of Chicago and includes members: Sam Rodriguez (vocals), Michael Spillman (lead guitar), Carlos Guzman (rhythm guitar), and Mike Lalas (drums). As I mentioned, they are bringing their sound to a more deathcore style and are doing this beautifully. I have become a huge fan and continue looking forward to what they are going to be doing.
Sam and Mike sat down with Metal Nation and discussed the band, the evolution, and hauntings, because why not. (If you are viewing from your phone, please scroll to the end of the page and click “View Desktop Version” to gain video and interview access).
